Extended Adolescence / Loss of Innocence (Parenting Styles, SJW/Campus Politics, Growing Up + More)

Extended adolescence and loss of innocence. In this video essay/rant I discuss the history of adolescence and teenagehood, how parenting styles such as helicopter parenting prevent natural growth into adulthood, how current campus politics and U.S. culture wars lead to infantilization (social justice warriors, anti-free speech protests and discourse, trigger warnings etc), how economic and class differences effect extended adolescence, social media aspects such as “adulting” videos, tiktok aesthetics and culture, the recent stigmatization of age gap relationships on twitter and other social media sites, cancel culture and outrage / call out culture, coming of age movies and what loss of innocence truly means, what it means to be an adult, what it means to gain a moral consciousness and so on and so forth. Hope you enjoy!
